Hornets guard Malik Monk suspended for violating NBA’s anti-drug policy

Malik Monk has been suspended for violating the NBA’s Anti-Drug Program, and no date has been set yet for when the Charlotte Hornets guard will be eligible to return.

On Wednesday, the NBA issued a statement announcing that Monk has been suspended and will not be cleared until he is in compliance with the league’s anti-drug program. The suspension will begin with Wednesday night’s game against the New York Knicks.

Monk, a former No. 11 overall pick out of Kentucky, has been playing some of his best basketball of the season this month. He has averaged 16.7 points per game since the start of February and had back-to-back games with 25 points. The Hornets, however, are just 19-38 and not in playoff contention.

Monk was the subject of trade rumors prior to the deadline, but he ended up remaining with the Hornets. The 22-year-old is in his third NBA season.
