Hornets' horrendous NBA Draft Lottery luck continues

Plain and simple, no team has it worse than the Charlotte Hornets

The horrendously bad luck for Charlotte in the NBA Draft Lottery continued Monday night when it wound up with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Charlotte was tied with the Utah Jazz and Washington Wizards with a 14% chance to earn the No. 1 overall pick, and the three teams finished 4-5-6 in the draft order. The fall to No. 4 continues a historic stretch of bad luck for the Hornets in the draft lottery.

Just two seasons ago, Charlotte was one spot away from being able to select Victor Wembanyama and instead had to settle for Brandon Miller.

In 2012, Charlotte wound up with the No. 2 pick and selected Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. The No. 1 and No. 3 overall selections in that year's draft were Anthony Davis and Bradley Beal, both of whom have had/are having much better careers than Kidd-Gilchrist.

In 2018, the Hornets drafted Shai Gilgeous-Alexander but then traded him to the Los Angeles Clippers for the rights of Miles Bridges. We also can't forget that Charlotte traded a guy named Kobe Bryant on draft night in 1998.

The theme here is evident: The draft lottery has been wildly unkind to the Hornets.

With the missed opportunity to draft a true franchise player in Cooper Flagg, Charlotte may very well find itself back inside the draft lottery next season.

If history has shown us anything, the Hornets will once again miss out on a great opportunity and will remain one of the worst teams in the NBA.
