The Hornets made a small but notable roster move.
Charlotte waived forward Drew Peterson, the team announced, opening up one of its two-way slots while keeping the standard 15-man roster intact. Peterson had been on a two-way deal, so this is more about flexibility than subtraction.
Peterson, 26, went undrafted out of USC in 2023 and spent most of his first two NBA seasons bouncing between the Celtics and their G League affiliate. He joined the Hornets over the summer but appeared in just six games this season, logging limited minutes at the NBA level.
Most of his work came in the G League with the Greensboro Swarm, where he played heavy minutes and filled the stat sheet. In nine games, Peterson averaged 14.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.9 steals per game. The efficiency wasn’t ideal, but the usage was real.
Because Peterson was waived before the January seven guarantee date, he’ll receive only a prorated portion of his two-way salary. The Hornets now have an open two-way slot alongside KJ Simpson and Antonio Reeves.
That opening isn’t expected to stay open long. Charlotte is reportedly planning to promote G League center PJ Hall to a two-way deal.
