During the summer of 2024, the San Antonio Spurs signed Chris Paul and traded for Harrison Barnes. Both of those moves proved to be worth it, but as Victor Wembanyama proves he can lead a championship team, the Spurs have been urged to make a bigger deal.
Once the offseason starts, the Spurs could be in the running for Trae Young, De'Aaron Fox, or another premier guard, although a recent odds update has the Spurs as the second-most likely team to land Devin Booker.
The Phoenix Suns are only 19-20 this season, and their trio of Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal simply hasn't worked out so far. Booker is one of the league's best scorers, averaging 26.6 points over the last six seasons.
As of now, there is no indication that the Suns would be willing to part with the face of their franchise, but Phoenix only owns two first-round picks between now and 2031, and one of them has a swap placed on it.
The Spurs could easily match Booker's salary and give the Suns a chance to rebuild after this season, which, if continues down the same path, can only be called a failure.
The Houston Rockets have made it clear that they are also interested in Booker, and they own three of the Suns's future picks, although the Spurs should be able to win a bidding war with their in-state rivals.
While adding Booker is not guaranteed, fans should expect the Spurs' front office to be aggressive in putting win-now pieces around Wembanyama over the summer.
