How Did Wemby Praise Kyrie?

San Antonio Spurs Victor Wembanyama displayed his maturity throughout the NBA All-Star Weekend. Although Wembanyama exuded frustration after the "Global Stars" team lost 41-25, another shining moment revealed the ahead-of-his-time state of mind. During the weekend's festivities, Wembanyama gave a glowing compliment to Dallas Mavericks Kyrie Irving.

Given Tim Duncan and David Robinson's significant career success, Wembanyama has large shoes to fill as the Spurs' franchise cornerstone player. If anyone has the talent and maturity for such a task, it's the French megastar. For one, Wembanyama does his homework, and that's not merely a reference to the young star reading books before games.

Irving is one of the best ball-handling stars of all time and possibly one of the more influential players in the NBA due to his basketball wizardry and one-of-a-kind approach to life and the game.

As a student of the NBA and basketball in general, Wembanyama understands the assignment. When a reporter asked, "Who has the deepest bag in the league?" Wembanyama replied with "Kyrie."

Players such as Philadelphia 76ers' Jared McCain naturally named his teammate Tyrese Maxey, and Charlotte Hornets' Brandon Miller named himself and Paul George. Finally, Detroit Pistons' Ausar Thompson replied with Oklahoma City Thunder Shai-Gilgeous Alexander.

While such names warrant mention to some degree, Irving is the answer. Even in his 30s, Irving still catches elite defenders off guard with miraculous, logic-defying moves.

And unlike the other players mentioned, Irving is the sole NBA champion among those players, which matters most to Wembanyama and the Spurs franchise at large. Once again, Wembanyama showcased why he's an "alien" among the younger stars of the NBA.
