On Tuesday, the Detroit Pistons defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 111-101 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The dynamic duo of Cade Cunningham and Duncan Robinson set the tone for Detroit. Cunningham led the way with 23 points and seven assists. But it was Robinson who was particularly dominant, finishing with 19 points, including five 3-pointers.

He also managed to get into a scuffle with James Harden in the 4th quarter.

Head coach JB Bickerstaff emphasized the importance of having Robinson shoot the ball well, per Jeremy Otto of 97.1 The Ticket.

“It just spreads the defense,” he said. “The way that teams have to guard him. They have to chase him; they have to put four eyes on him because he’s getting screening action. And that opens up the game. He’s hitting his shots like he was, or it opens up the game for everybody else, where everybody else has a chance to get loose.”

Robinson has been a key figure for the Pistons in this postseason. He is shooting over 40% from the 3-point line and is averaging 11 to 12 points per game. In the first round, he came away with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals in Game 2 of the first-round series against the Orlando Magic. The Pistons went on to win 98-83. In Game 6, Robinson finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists in a 93-79 win to force a Game 7.

Robinson averaged 12.2 points per game and shot 45.6% from the field as well as 41% from the 3-point line in the regular season.

Game 2 will be played on Thursday at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
