One of the biggest factors that have held the Indiana Pacers down in the 2024-25 NBA season is their struggles with injuries. In particular, it completely depleted their frontcourt.
James Wiseman and Isaiah Jackson are both on the shelf for the foreseeable future. The pair of Pacers' big men both suffered torn Achilles tendons. Oddly enough, it was on opposite legs for the two of them.
Dec. 15 is usually the unofficial starting point for trade season in the NBA. When that date approached, the Pacers took the opportunity to go bolster their frontcourt depth behind Myles Turner.
Indiana acquired Thomas Bryant from the Miami Heat in exchange for the right to swap second-round picks in 2031. The Pacers' newest acquisition immediately saw the court in his first game.
Bryant registered seven points, two rebounds, and one block in 11 minutes of action during the team's win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
Bench leader T. J. McConnell had high praise for Bryant in a recent availability period with the media.
"He's reached out to a lot of guys," McConnell told reporters. "He wants to learn how he can fit in, he sees how we play, and he has fit in seamlessly. He came in and played really well for us against New Orleans and he's really going to help us. He's a guy that can play fast, step out and make a three. [Bryant can] play really random and attack the rim. That's what our second unit does."
Bryant should have every opportunity to carve out a solid role for himself in Indiana. The new Pacers big man has previously been a solid contributor at multiple spots in his career, including his time with the Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Lakers.
