Oklahoma City Thunder’s newest star, Nikola Topic, finally made his Summer League debut.

Even with the Oklahoma City Thunder being the reigning champions of the NBA, the organization is still likely far from its true potential.

A key reason behind this is the absence of Nikola Topic in the 2024-25 NBA season. The 12th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft tore his ACL before making his debut for the Thunder.

Well, after being sidelined for more than a year, Topic is back as he played his first game for OKC in the NBA Summer League.

Nikola Topic impresses in debut with the OKC Thunder

The Thunder locked horns with the Memphis Grizzlies in the Salt Lake City Summer League matchup. The game ended with the Grizzlies coming out on top.

Despite the Thunder suffering a 92-80 defeat at the hands of the Grizzlies, the franchise had a silver lining.

It was none other than the performance of Topic. The 19-year-old stud featured in 26 minutes of OKC and put up 14 points, 1 rebound, and 4 assists.

Topic did so by shooting 6-of-11 from the field, including a 2-of-4 display from the three-point line. Considering he is coming off a serious injury, fans cannot complain much.

What’s next for Nikola Topic?

As of now, the Thunder have a brilliant core featuring the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Alex Caruso.

They also have a talented center in Chet Holmgren. As the reigning champions of the league, the Thunder would likely want to aim for back-to-back NBA Championships.

According to Chris Mannix, the Thunder want Topic to be involved in this goal next season. Even his future teammate, Lu Dort, thinks highly of him.

If all goes well, the young point guard won’t have to wait long to earn quality minutes in the rotation. But is Topic’s addition enough for the Thunder to become an NBA dynasty?

Well, ESPN’s Michael Wilbon slammed this narrative as he is skeptical of the Thunder earning the label of a dynasty with just one NBA title to their name.
