The idea of Stephen Curry coming off the bench in the 2025 NBA All-Star game wouldn't bode well for the hosting city. The Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco, will star as one of the newer arenas to receive All-Star honors. Following a slow start to receiving All-Star votes, Curry passed Dallas Mavericks Luka Doncic for significant NBA recognition.
When the first returns of the 2025 All-Star games released, Curry trailed Doncic by 59,714 votes. However, the NBA publicised the second return of All-Star votes, revealing the fans favor Curry over the Mavericks star by 25,160.
While LaMelo Ball has the attention of the TikTok NBA fan base, Curry is still one of the greatest players of all time, and also forces teams to think outside of their basketball logic, even if not at the same rate. Also, the new vote returns indicate the national NBA audience hasn't lost the significance of Curry at the All-Star game.
Curry currently holds 1.3 million votes, as he gains momentum to start in the building he helped build. Although the Warriors have a worse record at 18-18 to the Mavericks' 21-16, perhaps Doncic's injury persuaded more people to vote for Curry.
However, due to the plethora of ways the NBA spikes votes, making science of it is a futile exercise.
Nonetheless, the king of the Chase Center, despite averaging lower statistics than previous seasons, 22.8 points, down from his career 24.7 mark keeps the Warriors alive enough to remain a relevant team to host the All-Star game.
Curry won't catch Oklahoma City Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the Western Conference standings and in votes, he has the heart of San Francisco, and more importantly, the pulse of the national audience.
