In case you missed it Sunday, Kyrie Irving's trade request was granted, and the All-Star guard has been moved to the Dallas Mavericks.
The acquisition certainly gives Luka Doncic the opportunity to lessen his on-ball workload, and it should be an interesting fit between two star ball-handlers.
We discussed this on Friday, but after Irving's trade demand, the futures board quickly moved. Brooklyn's odds dropped from +700 to +1400 on DraftKings, and now with the deal official, the Nets sit at +2000 to win the 2023 NBA Championship.
As for Dallas, DraftKings announced last night that the trade skyrocketed the Mavericks title odds. Prior to the move, the Mavs, who are currently sixth in the Western Conference (nine games back of No. 1 Denver) sat at +3000 to win the title. Once the trade was confirmed, DK saw a high of +1200 for Dallas to win it all.
The odds have since settled at +1500, which has the Mavericks eighth on the board. They are fifth in the West, behind Denver (+700), the Clippers (+800), Memphis (+1100) and Golden State (+1200).
This move didn't shake up the top of the East too much, given that the trade demand in itself already had that impact. Boston remains the favorite to win it all this season at +350, followed by Milwaukee at +650. Philadelphia is the only other Eastern Conference team near the top of the futures board, currently sitting at +900.
