'I hate the play-in…it’s the best thing ever!' Draymond Green gives HILARIOUS take on being 10th seed ahead of playoffs
Bob Kupbens-USA TODAY Sports

Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors are about to embark on their 8th playoff in the past 10 seasons of their dynasty. Most importantly, they will have to enter the playoffs as the 10th seed.

This effectively means they have to battle from the play-in spots and play an additional two games to confirm their position. With this in mind, the superstar forward had a hilarious take on their position.

Draymond Green took to his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, to talk about their playoff situation. Essentially, the daunting task of the play-in games is not to his liking. Even then, he loves the fact that the play-in games are part of the playoffs.

I hate the play-in, I absolutely hate it. It’s the best thing ever created. When you look at the play-in and what its done for basketball, its the best thing ever created. Since the NBA has added the play-in, its taken the last month and a half of the season to a totally different level. But, as much as I hate it as a basketball player, as a basketball fan, this play-in is nuts. Draymond Green said

This season, Green’s Golden State Warriors finished with a 46-36 record, which got them to the 10th spot. Last season, the same record would have been good for 4th in the Western Conference. Therefore, it is great for him and his team that the play-in games are there to play for.

Otherwise, they would have to pack their bags and go on vacation, as their season would be over. Even though they did not have a season to be proud of, Green was happy that the play-in games were there for them to salvage a decent playoff run.

Draymond Green and the Warriors in a tough Western Conference

Never in the history of the NBA has 10 teams in the same conference finish their seasons with 10 games or more above .500. The new NBA record has not only brought in increased competitiveness but also an element of surprise. For example, before the last game of the regular season, the top 3 teams were tied for the No. 1 spot.

Then there were two teams that were trying to avoid slipping into the play-in spots. Then there were the three teams, including the Golden State Warriors, who were jostling for the best play-in spot. Such competitiveness meant eight out of the 10 teams in the West could not rest their starters in the final few games. Something that was the normal order whenever the playoffs approached.

Draymond Green knows that had this year’s record been in last year’s situation, they would have received some much-needed rest before commencing battle. However, he is happy that the play-in games exist, which will give them a shot this year.
