The Houston Rockets were one of the most active teams in the NBA at the start of the offseason. The team sent Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and future picks to the Phoenix Suns and received Kevin Durant in return. Although it was odd to see Green leave the franchise, fans are still ecstatic about welcoming Durant to the franchise.
Green started his career with the Rockets when he was drafted by the team in 2021 with the No. 2 pick. He developed into one of the most important players of the team, together with All-Star center Alperen Sengun. Together, they were part of the building blocks that helped build the foundation of the current Houston team.
However, fans and Sengun won’t be seeing Green next season as he’ll continue his career in Phoenix.
Sengun recently revealed that he felt sad to see Green not be a part of the team anymore. In a recent interview he had with “Socrates,” the Turkish star revealed that he sent a message to his former teammate when he came out about the blockbuster trade.
“Of course, it was tough. Jalen was like a brother to me. We learned the NBA together. We made it into the playoffs together, we came up from the bottom together,” Sengun said. “I was very sad, but at the same time, Kevin Durant is coming… I called Jalen right away and told him how I felt. I hope this trade motivates you even more because I believe Jalen is going to be a really great player.”
In the four seasons he was with the Houston Rockets, Green averaged 20.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
Last season, the Houston Rockets made it to the playoffs as the third seed in the Western Conference. However, they couldn’t get past the more experienced Golden State Warriors team that eliminated them in seven games. While it was a refreshing challenge for the Rockets to be in the playoffs, Sengun had strong thoughts regarding their opponents.
“The Warriors were probably the one team that would have gave us the most trouble, and we drew them.”
“They’re a very experienced team,” Sengun continued. “They fouled a lot. In the playoffs, they don’t call it. But they were the ones crying all series about fouls not being called. When it comes to us, we’re not really allowed to complain. It’s more of an internal thing. Ime Udoka doesn’t allow it. He loses his mind if we complain.”
Given that the Warriors were a more experienced team, they took advantage of what they knew the referees would consider a foul or not. It’s a lesseon that Sengun and the Rockets learned, which they can use in the future.
