San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is one of the best rising stars in the NBA. His outlandish length and reach set him apart from other stars in the league. Anyone who dares to challenge him in a game of one-on-one could be considered bold, but crazy. On Tuesday, former star player Jermaine O’Neal declared that he thinks he can do well in a game of one-on-one against Wemby, among other stars.

Although listed at 7-foot-3, Wemby is capable of moving well around the court, similar to a backcourt player. He can also use his height in the post and knock down interior shots without effort. Defensively, Wemby is a matchup nightmare since he covers a lot of airspace with his 8-foot wingspan.

But O’Neal is up for the challenge of facing the No. 1 pick of the 2023 draft. However, he has a condition; the former Indiana Pacers star needs the ball while he’s posting up his opponent.

O’Neal talked about it during his guest appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show.” Though Wemby isn’t the only star he thinks he’ll be able to outplay in the post. The six-time All-Star also thinks he’ll do well against stars like LeBron James and Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg.

“If we had a possession game where we were playing mid-post to post, and we’re going to let’s call it five one-on-one, I like my chances. I like my chances against anybody in the post at this point,” O’Neal said.

“I believe if I had the ball, and if we’re playing just straight post-up, I believe that I’m strong enough, I think I’m still agile enough to score in the low post.”

“Now, if we’re talking about playing full court, I’m not doing that. I’m gonna lost that battle. These legs don’t have that much gas,”

During his time, O’Neal was a problem for many frontcourt stars, including San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan. He did damage inside the paint and was a three-time All-NBA because of it.

The NBA adjusted the record of the San Antonio Spurs’ Gregg Popovich

Last season, Gregg Popovich missed most of the year due to health issues. He had a stroke, and his assistant, Mitch Johnson, had to take over as an interim head coach. Following the season, the league announced that they removed the 77 games that Johnson coached from Pop’s all-time coaching record.

Pop’s record is now set at 1,390-824, which was his record on Nov. 2, before he suffered the unfortunate health issue. In May, the longtime head coach announced his decision to step down from the position, leaving Johnson as his replacement. However, he’s still involved with the San Antonio Spurs as the team’s president.
