Indiana Pacers: Analyst Reveals 1 Wild Reason on Why Networks Don’t Cover the Team Enough
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Expectations weren’t high for the Indiana Pacers when the playoffs began. While they do have one of the better rosters in the league, only Pascal Siakam is the meaningful player on the roster with meaningful postseason experience. It wouldn’t have been weird if fans treated this foray as a learning experience for Tyrese Haliburton and company.

However, they subverted expectations and found themselves in equal footing with the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. It’s a great display of basketball from a team that wasn’t expected to make a deep playoff run when the season first started.

However, it’s interesting to note that there isn’t much national press coverage for the Pacers despite being one of the only two teams left standing in the Eastern Conference. Most of the playoff coverage involving the series right now is focused on their opponents.

One analyst reveals the shocking reason why the Pacers isn’t getting as much love as they deserve from basketball media.

Analyst reveals the Indiana Pacers aren’t ‘sexy’ enough to be covered extensively

Tim Legler is one of the analysts who cover multiple sports for ESPN. He addressed the issue regarding his network and other basketball-focused media not putting the shine on the Pacers and their incredible postseason run.

He explained his take on a recent appearance on The Ryen Russillo Podcast, as reported by The Spun’s Daniel Bates:

I wish I had video of all the meetings I’ve been in this year at ESPN when I wanted to talk more about the Indiana Pacers. Particularly after they got [Pascal] Siakam… and it’s just not sexy enough. … I watch this team every night and I’m going, ‘Gosh that’s fun’ — fun style to play in.

I envy these guys for being able to play in a system like this. But just how hard it is to guard, how hard it is to prepare when you have this many guys that can make shots. And there’s not one wasted dribble on the part of the Indiana Pacers over half-court.

His reasoning is fair. Indiana is a small NBA market, and the Pacers playing well doesn’t bring the same number of clicks and eyes compared to talking about the Celtics and the New York Knicks.

However, things can quickly change if they take down the C’s in an epic series. They will instantly turn into underdog darlings overnight should they achieve what many think is improbable for them at this moment.
