Indiana Pacers Legend Reggie Miller Sends Warning To New York Knicks
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

An integral player in the longstanding rivalry between the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks is Hall of Fame shooting guard Reggie Miller. Miller rose to fame with his nine points in eight seconds, punctuated by a choking gesture he made toward Knicks super fan and renowned director, Spike Lee.

In the end, it was Reggie Miller and the Pacers who did the ultimate choking. Despite taking a 3-2 lead in their series after his heroics, it was the New York Knicks who came back to win the series in Game 7 at Madison Square Garden.

From 1993-2000, the teams met six times during the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Each team was victorious three times, as the Indiana Pacers broke the tie in 2013 when they won their Eastern Conference semifinal series in six games.

The Knicks are looking to even the all-time series up, as the teams are facing off in the Eastern Conference semifinals this year. New York got the upper hand at the start, winning Game 1 on Monday night 121-117.

As the teams prepare for Game 2 on Wednesday night, there will be a special guest in the arena; none other than Reggie Miller himself. Miller isn’t scheduled to work the series but will be part of the announce team.

“Just know, the Boogeyman is coming back to town to call the game,” Miller said half-jokingly during an interview on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Monday. “I am coming.”

Nearly 29 years to the day of the infamous game, Reggie Miller will be returning to the scene of the crime at Madison Square Garden. While he has promised no favoritism will be shown toward the Indiana Pacers, he isn’t expecting a warm welcome from the New York Knicks faithful.

“I’m sure I’ll hear the chants, I’m sure I’ll hear all those naughty words,” he said. “I’m good with that, but I’m there to do a job, to call a game. I’m sure this will be a great series.”

Miller is going to have a front-row seat announcing what should be a great game. If Game 1 is any indication of what is to come, this will be a competitive, series. The Indiana Pacers are catching a break, as the New York Knicks injury report added another major piece with Mitchell Robinson being sidelined for the remainder of the playoffs because of an ankle injury.
