Pascal Siakam carried the Indiana Pacers to a 128-126 road win over the Orlando Magic on Monday night to snap their franchise-record 16-game losing streak, claiming their first victory since February 11 before the All-Star break.

The Indiana Pacers forward had 37 points, six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks – including one on Paolo Banchero’s game-tying layup attempt before the buzzer – on 13-for-26 shooting from the field in 34 minutes of action.

“We gotta get some wins, man,” Siakam said in his postgame interview via IndyStar. “We gotta keep building as a team. It’s been tough. It’s been a tough year for us, man. It shows your character. You know it’s going to test you, but that’s life.”

“We’re not gonna back down. We’re going to keep fighting for each other. Keep working. We’re just hopeful that good things are going to happen by continuing to work and not giving up… It’s just continuing to focus on the basics. I’m going to keep saying it’s been a hard year for us. Try not to lose the identity of who we are, Pacers basketball,” he ended.

Indiana Pacers News: Rick Carlisle lauds the team’s fighting spirit vs. Orlando Magic

Even if they’re already eliminated from playoff contention this year, the Indiana Pacers still treated the Orlando Magic match as a playoff game because they were out to salvage some pride.

“Very competitive game. We needed to make a stand and just raise our level of collective will with how we’re competing. And the guys did it, led by the veterans. You know, Pascal (Siakam), Andrew (Nembhard), and Aaron (Nesmith). It felt like a playoff-type game,” Carlisle said in his postgame presser.

“We need to play as much meaningful basketball as we can because we know we’re not going to be in the playoffs. And so, this is an important game at an important time,” he continued. “All things considered, it was a great win for us. We haven’t won a game in a while, so we needed this.”
