Indiana Pacers Show Blueprint For Successful Offense in NBA Finals

If there is one thing that the Indiana Pacers showed in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, and have shown the entire postseason, it is the blueprint for what other teams should follow when it comes to offense. Teams like the Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks, who have been looking to enhance their offensive approach, should look to mimic the Pacers.

The key to the Pacers' approach on offense is their ability to create shots for themselves. At any given time, they have three ballhandlers or shot creators on their team, with players such as Tyrese Haliburton, Andrew Nembhard, or TJ McConnell.

Even the frontcourt players, Myles Turner and Pascal Siakam, can create their own shot as well.

Because they have so many people who can facilitate and find open shots, it leads to the ability to spread the floor, and as they have shown, it also leads to the ability to push the pace. Haliburton finished fourth overall in assists this season, with an average of 9.2 assists per game.

The Pacers also finished seventh overall in pace ranking in the NBA. They finished with a pace score of 99.87 for the season. They have shown the ability to capitalize and push the pace off turnovers and rebounds.

TJ McConnell plays a huge part in this with the way he approaches the game. He plays with a motor that is unmatched by so many. He constantly penetrates the paint and then finds the open man to knock down a big shot.

This is definitely a blueprint for struggling teams to observe and re-create to help them improve their offensive approach. It has worked so far this season for the Pacers and has shown countless times that it works as long as they stay true to it. In an interview with Scott Van Pelt after stealing Game 1 in OKC, Haliburton discussed this very approach.

"We believe until the clock hits 0. As long as we stay true to our plan and our approach, we always believe we can win," he said.
