Kevin Durant joining the Houston Rockets headlined the offseason. It’s a signal at Houston’s shift. Last season, they were still learning, but Ime Udoka is ready for the push. Durant has been present at training camp, gearing up with the Rockets’ toughness. But the anticipation is around his debut. The Rockets face the Atlanta Hawks in their first preseason bout. Will the Slim Reaper feature?
Udoka already confirmed his presence. KD will be available for all four of the Rockets’ preseason games. The Hawks could prove to be a unique test for the KD-led Rockets. Similar to Houston, the Hawks have moved around their roster, with Trae Young remaining the cornerstone. Of course, the stars won’t be asked to play heavy minutes in preseason.
But even if the brief battle is anything like a typical Durant vs Young matchup, it’s going to be fun for the NBA community.
The Rockets will also be testing their roster’s capabilities against the Hawks. Notably, Fred VanVleet suffered a season-ending ACL injury in the offseason. That has left a void within the Rockets. They are without a true floor general, which has left the need to develop one. Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard are seen as possible options to run the show.
However, Kevin Durant will likely contribute too. The former Nets forward has significantly improved his passing acumen since coming into the league. With him and Alperen Sengun, the Rockets are still a threat for the championship. And with Kevin Durant available against the Hawks, their fans will see just how the team does with the legendary forward leading the lines.
