It seems like Kevin Durant is embracing the “Southern hospitality” of his new home in Houston a little more enthusiastically than expected. In a recent interview that had less to do with basketball and more to do with, well, shooting his shot, the new Houston Rockets star got a bit flirty with sports personality Kay Adams. Forget on-court strategy; Durant was focused on a different kind of play.

The NBA offseason is usually a quiet time, but Durant decided to spice things up. During an appearance on Adams’ show, the conversation took a turn when he extended a not-so-subtle invitation. “I’m expecting you to come to a game,” Durant told Adams, but he didn’t stop there. He leaned in with a grin that could be seen from space and added, “We going to a barbecue here in Texas when you get out here, alright?”

Ah, the classic “let’s get barbecue” line. A move as old as time, really. It’s the modern-day equivalent of asking someone to check out your etchings. Smooth, KD. Real smooth.

Will Durant’s Charm Work This Time?

Adams, to her credit, didn’t just blush and accept. She playfully called him out, reminding Durant that she’s been to one of his games before and was met with radio silence. Apparently, he was injured and didn’t even give her a wave. A classic superstar move. Too busy icing his ankle to acknowledge the people in the stands.

Durant, looking slightly caught off guard, quickly backpedaled, claiming he had no idea she was even there until a week later. Sure, KD. We believe you. It’s a busy life being a 14-time All-Star;

You can’t be expected to remember every fan, right?

The whole exchange had fans on social media absolutely buzzing. The comments were a goldmine of peak internet humor. One user wrote, “I’ll pray for KD not to fail again this time,” which feels a little harsh but also… fair. Others were more supportive of his off-court efforts, with comments like “Easy Money Sniper for a reason” and the slightly more direct, “Got her smiling fixing her hair she sliding to that BBQ.” Honestly, the fan reactions were almost as entertaining as Durant’s attempt at romance.

A New City, A New Durant?

Since landing in Houston this offseason as the main event in a massive seven-team trade, Durant seems to be settling in quite nicely. He even mentioned that the move feels a bit like a homecoming, with a college teammate working as a video coordinator and another as a scout in the front office. It’s always nice to have familiar faces around, especially when you’re the new guy in town, even if you are Kevin Durant.

When Adams asked him about his transition to Houston, Durant credited the “Southern hospitality.” He explained, “You just have to immerse yourself in the culture when you get down here.” If his idea of immersing himself involves asking TV hosts out for barbecue, then he’s definitely diving in headfirst. You have to respect the commitment.

What This Means for the Rockets

While Durant’s dating life is suddenly front-page news, Rockets fans are probably more concerned with what he’ll do on the court. Houston‘s acquisition of Durant was a bombshell, a clear signal that they’re tired of rebuilding and ready to contend. Paired with young talents like Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, and Jabari Smith Jr., this Rockets team has the potential to be truly explosive.

Of course, the team has already hit a snag with Fred VanVleet’s recent ACL injury, which puts even more pressure on Durant to be the leader this young squad needs. Fans are hoping his focus is more on winning games than on winning dates. But hey, who says you can’t do both? Maybe a good Texas barbecue is exactly what he needs to fuel a deep playoff run. We’ll just have to wait and see if Kay Adams takes him up on that offer.
