Is Tyrese Haliburton nearing a return to form?

The Indiana Pacers' slow start to the season can be tied directly to Tyrese Haliburton's struggles. The All-Star guard has been sluggish to begin the new season.

Haliburton entered Monday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans averaging 15.8 points, 8.5 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals. However, his efficiency is where the concerns have arisen, with just 37.9% shooting from the field and 30.7% shooting from the perimeter.

“It's part of it," Haliburton said on Friday. "It's part of basketball. I just got to keep trusting myself, working hard, trusting my teammates. And yeah, I'll figure it out."

Against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, Haliburton found his groove. He exploded for 34 points, 13 assists, three rebounds and three steals while shooting 52.2% from the field and 50% from three-point range.

This is the version of Haliburton the Pacers need. He's their star player. He is the spearhead of everything Rick Carlisle wants from his team. Haliburton's playmaking, scoring gravity and fearlessness when attacking the paint trigger opportunities for his teammates elsewhere on the court.

If Haliburton has truly turned a corner, the Pacers could emerge as an underdog threat in the Eastern Conference. They donned that title last season and often proved themselves when their backs were against the wall.

Currently, the Pacers are 18th in offensive rating and 21st in defensive rating. Clearly, there are significant improvements needed on both sides of the floor. Haliburton's return to prominence would undoubtedly help.

Still, it's worth remembering that Indiana isn't a fully formed contender yet. Last season's success was a sign of things to come, but it didn't mean the Pacers wouldn't go through further growing pains. Regardless, they need Haliburton to be his usual self if they have any hope of reaching their ceiling.
