Former Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas says he was threatened at gunpoint while hanging out with friends. In a now-deleted post, Thomas reveals his shocking encounter, which ended when the perpetrator recognized Thomas as a former NBA All-Star.
"Really tripping on how these young kids moving around," wrote Thomas on X. "I really had a life-changing moment yesterday where a kid pulled an AK47 on me and the homies and if it wasn't for who I was and him recognizing me in my own city he probably woulda ended all of our lives. Be SAFE."
Isaiah, 35, did not elaborate on the aftermath of his encounter and many people are wondering whether he called the cops or just let the kid get off scot-free. Since the guy knew who Thomas was, he must have known that I.T. was loaded with cash after making over $35 million in his NBA career. Nevertheless, for whatever reason, the would-be thief had a change of heart and allowed Thomas to live on to tell the story.
Whether you believe it or not, Thomas' tale offers hope amidst a positive ending. Sadly, the same cannot be said for other players with other tragic experiences. Paul Pierce, who survived a nightclub stabbing, still has scars to show for his incident in 2000 which caused him to carry a gun when in public for two years. Former coach Stan Van Gundy is still dealing with the tragic passing of his wife after she took her own life this summer.
In the case of Isaiah Thomas, he seems to be one of the lucky ones in this scenario and it's only because of his career in the NBA, where he averaged 17.5 points, 4.8 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game, that he was even allowed to live at all.
As a 2x All-Star and former All-NBA player, Isaiah found success as a small, 5'9" point guard in a league that heavily favors bigs. Best known for his time with the Celtics, Thomas shattered all expectations with his elite scoring and ball-handling and now he's fighting to keep his career going. In truth, Thomas is a fighter and a survivor in every sense of the word and now he's got another story to add to his amazing journey in life.
