Milwaukee Bucks center Myles Turner recently took to social media to say goodbye to the Indiana Pacers and the fans after spending their first 10 years of his NBA career there.
“It’s hard to put into words what the past 10 seasons and past 10 years of my life has meant to me. . .From a teenager out of Bedford Texas to the MAN and player I am today, Indy has been home through it all,” Turner posted on Instagram. “You watched me grow up – on and off the court. Just like you I put my hard hat on clocked in & clocked out every single day. . .”
“‘Thank you Indy’ from the bottom of my heart. I mean it when I say the 317 will always be home,” he continued. “And I’ve always been proud to call myself a Hoosier! I hope you continue to embrace me as much as I’ve always embraced you! See you soon.”
In the full letter, Turner also thanked his teammates, coaches, and the staff he got to know in the past few years. The former 11th overall pick was instrumental in the Indiana Pacers’ first NBA Finals run since 2000, having averaged 13.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 2.0 blocks on 48.8 percent shooting from the field during the playoffs.
Indiana Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard, just like most of us, was surprised when Myles Turner left the team to join the Milwaukee Bucks in free agency. After he had been shocked, Nembhard said he wishes nothing but the best for his former teammate.
“It was a little shocking when it first happened. Obviously, I loved my time with Myles, and it was great being his teammate…I’m excited to see his success over there,” Nembhard said via The Athletic’s James Boyd.
To try to offset Turner’s transfer, the Indiana Pacers acquired Jay Huff from the Memphis Grizzlies and re-signed James Wiseman on a new two-year contract this summer.
