Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant will miss Saturday’s Game 4 against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to a hip injury he suffered during Thursday’s Game 3 loss, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The injury occurred late in the second quarter when Morant fell hard after being fouled by OKC’s Luguentz Dort on a dunk attempt and he did not return. The Grizzlies were up 67-40 at the time, but gave up a historic comeback and lost the game, partially due to Morant’s absence.
When Morant did return to the sideline on Thursday, he was on crutches. He was not able to participate in Friday’s practice.
Morant has suffered a variety of injuries this season, including a sprained right ankle against the Golden State Warriors in the play-in tournament, an injury that is reportedly still lingering.
Due to other injuries including a posterior hip subluxation, Morant only appeared in 50 game this season.
No team in league history has won a playoff series by overcoming an 0-3 deficit and the Grizzlies will attempt to do so without their star player.
