Ja Morant says it would take a billion 'likes' to consider dunk contest

After this year’s snoozefest of a Slam Dunk Contest, basketball enthusiasts are putting out the Bat-Signal to try to get a bigger star to participate. Now Ja Morant is revealing what exactly it will take to get him to answer the call.

The Memphis Grizzlies star spoke with reporters on Tuesday and mentioned the one thing that it will take for him to compete in the Dunk Contest — a billion “likes” on social media.

To call Morant’s requirement here lofty would be the understatement of the millennium. The most “liked” Instagram photo of all-time is a picture of an egg that was posted in 2019. That photo received 55.8 million “likes.” To get 100 million “likes” would completely obliterate that record … and still only be one-tenth of the way to Morant’s one billion requirement.

Needless to say, we should not expect Morant to do the Dunk Contest any time soon. While the 22-year-old All-Star may be the single springiest NBA player today, he actually has a specific reason for why he does not want to take part in the competition.
