The Miami Heat wanted to rope in the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo this trade deadline. However, with the Milwaukee Bucks’ star not getting traded, the hopes fizzled out soon. Thus, despite showing initial interest, Heat stepped away from trade talks involving Ja Morant.
Surprisingly, following the expiration of the trade deadline, a cryptic post from Morant himself has ruffled some feathers. Now, it seems as if the Heat star was interested in leaving Miami for a new team. As no teams made any notable trade proposals, Morant is apparently treating it as a ‘wake-up call.’
“Ja Morant was surprised no teams made significant trade offers for him and it came as a ‘wake-up call’ for him, per@TomerAzarly,” read a report from ‘Fullcourtpass’ on X.

Currently, the 26-year-old’s performance is not looking particularly promising. He is averaging just 19.5 points with 3.2 rebounds and 8.1 assists. His field goal percentage, too, looks a bit off at 41%. Meanwhile, as the Heat did not trade Morant, there was a surprising reason for their decision.
Just weeks back, it looked almost certain that Miami would be trading off Morant. Surprisingly, as the deadline passed, there were no significant activities from the Heat. Delving deep into the matter, Miami Herald reporter Barry Jackson stated that the front office was not ready to ‘take on two years’ for Morant.
“There was a reluctance to take on two years ($84M) for a player who has not played more than 67 games in any of his six seasons because of injuries and suspension. His slender body type (which runs counter to Miami preference for PGs) and diminished production couldn’t be ignored, nor the risk of extended NBA suspension with another misstep,” Jackson reported.

Thus, with things looking a bit cloudy for Morant, fans would hope that the NBA star sorts things out fast.
