Jacque Vaughn was glad to see Joe Harris back at Barclays Center
USA TODAY Sports

After joining the Nets in 2016, Joe Harris carved out a solid career by becoming one of the NBA’s premier shooters. The former Virginia Cavalier became a fixture in Brooklyn’s starting lineup as he was a regular across different iterations of the team.

Harris’ stint with the Nets ended in the 2023 offseason when he was traded to the Detroit Pistons alongside two second-round draft picks for cash considerations. In the matchup between his current and former team, the sweet-shooting wing was given a touching tribute by the team and former coach Jacque Vaughn.

“Definitely, well-deserved. I was here with us when Joe was in his first year. I had a lot of rides with him, whether that was in the Bubble, whether that was winning 19 games, whether that was making it to the Playoffs,” Jacque Vaughn said before playing against the Pistons. “Incredible human being. Ultimate teammate. He sacrificed his game, his body, and everything that goes along with being a teammate. The epitome of a great teammate.”

Harris established himself as a fan favorite in Brooklyn

In his seven seasons with the team, Joe became one of the best players on the Nets roster. He led the NBA in three-point percentage twice during the 2018/19 and 2020/21 seasons with 47.4% and 47.5% respectively.

The 32-year-old swingman holds the Nets franchise record for most three-pointers made at 984. It was a superb stint with the team, and when it ended, Joe felt the appreciation during his return to Barclays Center.

Harris appreciated his time with the Nets organization

Before the game against the Nets, Harris was interviewed regarding what he felt coming back to the arena he called home for seven seasons. Joe said he felt a bit weird returning since he’s playing for the opponent now, but it was awesome for him to reunite with his former teammates, the arena staff, and many more familiar faces.

He even got a special moment with Nets superfan “Mr. Whammy.” During the shootaround, Harris had a great conversation with the gentleman. It was proof that Joe left a mark on the Nets organization, and while he’s playing for a different team now, everyone still sees him as part of the family.
