Jalen Brunson gave it his all on Monday night. The New York Knicks superstar finished with a game-high 37 points on 12-of-27 shooting, to go along with three rebounds, seven assists, two steals and four triples in 44 minutes of action.
It still wasn't enough for the Knicks, though, as the Detroit Pistons came away with a 100-94 victory in Game 2 to even out this first-round NBA playoffs series at 1-1.
An understandably disappointed Brunson spoke to reporters after the game, and one of the questions he faced centered around Karl-Anthony Towns' performance on the evening.
After scoring 10 points in the first half, Towns disappeared after the break. The five-time All-Star was held scoreless in the second half, missing all three of his attempts.
Bruson was asked to share his thoughts on Towns' performance. As the Knicks' primary playmaker, Brunson was also questioned if he feels any sense of responsibility about the Towns' lack of touches on offense.
Brunson got brutally honest in his response.
"Yeah, I'm definitely taking each possession at a time and trying to figure out the best course of action," Brunson said. "It's very tough when there's definitely one ball. We have a lot of great players on this team.
"Definitely, it's on my shoulders. I'm not going to point a finger and say some people need to do that. It's on me to make sure I set the table.
"So I'll go back and figure out what I need to do. We'll have conversations, and we'll come back later if you need me."
"It's on me to make sure I set the table."

Being the true leader that he is, Brunson was quick to take the blame for whatever shortcomings his team had in their tough loss. Instead of pointing fingers, the two-time All-Star made it abundantly clear that the buck stops with him.
Brunson also stated that he intends to look back on this loss to determine what went wrong for the Knicks. He will have a couple of days to do so with Game 3 in Detroit scheduled for Thursday night.
