Jalen Brunson, Knicks agree to four-year, $104 million deal

The deal will pay Brunson an average salary of $26 million and includes a player option for 2025-26. 

Brunson signing with New York was one of the worst-kept secrets heading into the free-agency period. Earlier this week, reports emerged that Brunson was "widely anticipated" to sign with New York. 

While Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison called Brunson a "top priority" back in May, the two sides never agreed on a contract. According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the Mavericks were not offered the opportunity to match the Knicks' offer to Brunson. 

Last season, Brunson averaged career-highs in points (16.3), rebounds (3.9) and assists (4.8). He shot 50% from the field and 37% from three in 61 starts for the Mavericks.

The 25-year-old started 18 games in the postseason, averaging 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists, shooting 46% from the field and 34% from three. 

The Mavericks selected Brunson in the second round of the 2018 draft out of Villanova. In four seasons in Dallas, Brunson averaged 11.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 277 games.
