Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson has undergone a procedure to address an injury affecting his left wrist/hand/forearm, according to Ian Begley of SNY.tv, Shams Charania of ESPN, and Stefan Bondy of The New York Post ( all Twitter links). The news was first reported by Knicks Fan TV (Twitter link).
Brunson, who played through the injury during the Knicks’ championship run, is expected to spend most of the offseason recovering from the surgery. Bondy suggests that the recovery timeline is approximately six-to-eight weeks, while Begley states that it will be “at least” two months.
Charania hears that the star point guard will be able to resume basketball activities later this summer, so it sounds like his availability for opening night isn’t considered to be in jeopardy at this point.
Brunson, 29, averaged 26.0 points, 6.8 assists, and 3.3 rebounds in 35.0 minutes per game across 74 regular season outings in 2025/26. He increased his scoring average to 28.4 PPG during a memorable postseason run that saw the Knicks win their first championship since 1973. Brunson was named the NBA Finals MVP after scoring 45 points in a series-clinching Game 5.
If Brunson has to miss any time or if his minutes are being managed at the start of the season due to the injury, it could result in increased roles for Miles McBride, Jose Alvarado, and/or Tyler Kolek.
