Jalen Williams Gets Contract Update After Chet Holmgren, Thunder News

The Oklahoma City Thunder's incredible year continues.

The club, 17 years after arriving in the city, put together a historically great regular season with a 68-14 record, followed by an NBA title run.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the franchise player, won the MVP award and inked a four-year contract extension to leave him with the Thunder through his prime.

The Thunder are an incredibly young squad -- the second youngest to win a championship -- which leaves many believing they'll be competing for years to come.

On Wednesday, that sentiment is changing. Chet Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, inked a five-year, $250 million contract.

Jalen Williams, an All-NBA and All-Defensive talent, is next up to ink a rookie max contract extension, which will likely come with very similar value.

The 24-year-old wing has yet to ink his long-term deal, though. With Holmgren and Gilgeous-Alexander already taken care of, Williams is seemingly next in line.

ESPN's Shams Charania provided some insight into Williams' negotiation with the Thunder. According to the NBA insider, the two sides are gaining traction towards a deal.

"Oklahoma City officials will move toward locking in All-NBA superstar Jalen Williams, who has momentum in his rookie extension talks," Charania writes.
