Jamahl Mosley says what is ‘so important’ for Desmond Bane to understand after joining the Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic made two major offseason additions this summer, and Desmond Bane is expected to fit in well with their established culture as they try to compete in the Eastern Conference.

The Magic made the first major move of the NBA offseason, not even waiting until the NBA Finals were over to conduct a blockbuster trade with the Memphis Grizzlies for Desmond Bane.

Over the last two seasons, Orlando has been one of the very best defensive teams in the league, although they have also struggled to shoot the 3-ball. Bane is a capable, if not excellent defender, and one of the best high-volume shooters in the league.

The only concern about adding Bane is how he would fit into the Magic’s cemented core of Paolo Banchero, Jalen Suggs, and Franz Wagner. Head coach Jamahl Mosley was quick to point out how they have built a roster centered on a sense of brotherhood.

Orlando Magic are spending the summer building chemistry

While the on-court fit with Bane is very apparent, the Magic don’t have much room for risk. The Eastern Conference is as wide open as ever, and the Magic are generally seen as a top-three team in the Conference for the first time since Dwight Howard was on the roster.

Having Bane fit in and making it clear that there is no room for error is priority number one for Orlando.

“These guys stay connected throughout the summer,” Mosley said. “They’ve reached out, and they text message each other.

“They’re staying connected that way. And I think that’s so important for this group just to continue the chemistry of what our core guys have already built up until this point, and adding Desmond, who is someone that fits that.”

The Magic clearly have one of the best young cores in the NBA, although they are yet to get over the hump and win a playoff series. Bane, who spent the first five seasons of his career in Memphis, has found limited team success, but he still comes to Orlando as an experienced player.

“He understands what it takes in order to win at a high level, the chemistry and the camaraderie you have, as well as the real-life conversations that you have to have on a daily basis,” Mosley continued.

While the Magic added Bane as a centerpiece moving forward, he is not the only offseason addition expected to play a massive role in Orlando’s success.

Tyus Jones will be the ultimate glue guy for Orlando Magic

Bane is the best player the Magic added this offseason. In the trade to bring him to Orlando, they lost backup point guard Cole Anthony, but they quickly replaced him in free agency with Tyus Jones.

Jones is famous for always being near the top in assist-to-turnover ratio, and he is one of the better backup guards in the league. On top of that, he has personal connections with nearly everyone on the roster, it seems.

“You’ve got to think, he played with Desmond for years,” Mosley pointed out. “He knows Paulo because of the Duke connection. He’s from Minnesota, where Jalen Suggs is from. He’s the old head in Minnesota, so to say. And then there’s Wendell, who’s also at Duke.”

With an added star and a role-player famous for making everyone around him better, the Magic should be one of the favorites to win the East, especially since they did not compromise their defense at all in order to improve their offense.
