James Bouknight Out Indefinitely With Sprained Knee
USA TODAY Sports

On Saturday morning the Hornets announced that former first-round pick James Bouknight will miss time in training camp with a sprained knee. The timetable for Bouknight's return is still to be determined, but he will not participate in today's Purple and Teal Fan Event.

Bouknight played in 34 games last season averaging 5.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists on 36% shooting from the field and 30% from three point range.

The mercurial third-year guard has failed to make an impact in his young NBA career, and this training camp is an important one for him to reset his career.

Charlotte brought in competition in the backcourt this offseason with Amari Bailey, Frank Ntilikina, Nick Smith Jr., and Edmond Sumner. Bouknight will need to beat those new players out to be guaranteed a role on the 2023-24 Hornets.

The young guard missing time in this pivotal preseason is a tough blow to a player that finished last season well.
