James Dolan is stepping back from day-to-day ownership responsibilities with the New York Rangers, the organization announced on Friday.

Along with that news came the appointment of his replacement, as Dolan named his son, Quentin Dolan, as the new president, chief operating officer, and alternate governor of the Rangers.

The move puts the 32-year-old Dolan in a leadership position over both the Blueshirts and their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. Quentin, however, will still report to James Dolan, who remains MSG Sports executive chairman and CEO.

That said, Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury will now report to Quentin Dolan instead of James. Drury’s title will not change, and the franchise said he will continue to manage hockey operations and lead all hockey-related decision-making.

“Since his arrival overseeing our Player Performance and Science department, Quentin has made a strong impact on the Rangers and Knicks organizations, and we are pleased that he will step into this elevated position,” James Dolan said. “Quentin has quickly become an incredibly valued member of the Rangers franchise and played a key role behind the scenes with the Knicks during their championship run this past season,” James Dolan said.

Meanwhile, Quentin Dolan framed his new role as one focused on supporting the hockey operations of the Rangers organization.

“I’m honored to have this opportunity to ensure our hockey operations staff, coaches, and players have all the support they need to provide our fans a product they can be proud of,” Quentin Dolan said.

Drury endorsed the move in the team’s official announcement, noting his work with Quinten in the past years.

“Quentin and I have worked together for several years, and I believe him taking on this role will only make the Rangers organization stronger,” Drury said.

Quentin Dolan most recently served as senior vice president, player performance and science leader under his father at both the Rangers and the NBA's New York Knicks. He joined MSG Sports in 2022 and has served on the MSG Sports board since 2021.
