Bronny James helped the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 123-115 on Monday night .

The victory was particularly impressive because the Lakers were without star players Luka Doncic , Austin Reaves, and LeBron James.

Instead, Deandre Ayton , Rui Hachimura, and two-way player Nick Smith Jr combined for a remarkable 82 points in Portland.

Bronny James did not have an eye-catching stat line, but he also contributed significantly in 19 minutes off the bench.

James Worthy praises Bronny James for latest performance

Bronny James has averaged 13 minutes across five of the Lakers’ eight games this season, scoring a total of just seven points.

However, Bronny scored five of those points against the Trail Blazers on Monday, including his only three-pointer of the season.

But the 21-year-old has a far greater impact on the court than his stats suggest because he is an excellent perimeter defender.

After the Lakers’ win against the Blazers, three-time NBA champion James Worthy praised Bronny for his performance.

“I thought this may have been Bronny’s best game of his NBA Career,” Worthy said on Spectrum SportsNet.

“For a young kid who has been working hard, trying to gain more experience, he came in when they needed him. He had some assists; he had some big rebounds; he kept the ball in play; he hit a big three.

“We talked about how he gets to play with other big-time players; he’ll learn more and adjust better. I think this was a good game for Bronny.”

Bronny James’ playmaking stood out in LA Lakers victory

Bronny James is considered an awkward fit in the NBA because he’s not a traditional point guard, and he’s probably too short to be a shooting guard.

His tenacious defence will always be valuable, but he would really benefit from developing as either a playmaker or a shooter.

Well, the youngster showed signs of becoming a solid backup point guard, with six assists against the Blazers on Monday.

Bronny’s six assists were also the most by any Lakers player in a single game this season without a turnover.
