James Worthy says Magic Johnson and Luka Doncic share special skill, new LA Lakers signing could ‘explode’

James Worthy says Magic Johnson and Luka Doncic ‘are really good rebounders’ and both ‘take a snapshot’ of the whole floor

Since arriving in Los Angeles, Doncic has become the face of the Lakers franchise.

There is a lot of pressure on Doncic to perform for a team that has ushered in many legends over the years.

One of them is Magic Johnson, who is considered by many to be the greatest point guard of all time.

Former Lakers great James Worthy spoke about Doncic and Johnson on ESPN LA and said the two of them have something special in common.

“The one thing that Magic and Luka have in common is that they can take a snapshot.

“Both of them are really good rebounders. They get that rebound and they take a quick shot of the whole floor going down, and then their ability to calculate their steps and know where you’re going to be, he added.

“That’s why when Magic Johnson threw that pass, that no look pass to Billy Thompson, you know, that famous pass, he was looking over here the whole time.

“He saw it way before, he just knew he’d be in that area. So they both had that ability.”

One of the main things the Lakers focused on this offseason was acquiring players who mesh well with Doncic’s skill set.

The Lakers brought in Jake LaRavia, Marcus Smart and DeAndre Ayton.

Ayton in particular, gives the Lakers a true center, something they desperately lacked last season. Ayton will also become a dangerous lob threat next to Doncic.

Worthy also recognized that Ayton could have a big year with the Lakers playing alongside his new running mate Doncic.

“I think Luka is really good in traffic.

“That’s why I think Ayton is going to really explode with a lot of alley oops and easy buckets, because Luka just looks at you and smiles, and he throws a little lob to the right.”
