Jason Kidd: Mavs ‘Got to Grow Up’ After Meltdown vs. Lakers

“As a team, we’ve got to mature,” Kidd said, via Tim MacMahon of ESPN. “We’ve got to grow up — if we want to win a championship. There’s no young team that’s ever won a championship, mentally or physically.”

Dallas pulled one of the most notable trades of the season, landing Kyrie Irving from the Nets to pair the star guard alongside Luka Doncic. Early returns have not been great.

Kidd seemed to stress that the Mavs are getting too caught up in the officiating — and not enough on finishing the job.

“We lost our rhythm in the sense of just playing the game and not worrying about the other elements,” Kidd said, via MacMahon. “We were playing at a high level on both ends, offensively and defensively, and then we just got a little distracted with the whistle. We’ve just got to be better with that.”
