Head Coach Jason Kidd signed a multi-year contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know about his contract extension.
Bleacher Report posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday. Bleacher Report’s post read, “Mavs have signed HC Jason Kidd to a multiyear extension, per @TheSteinLine.” The post attracted all sorts of attention. One user realized, “I didn’t realize this dude played 19 years in the league. I’m old.” Another user responded, “They got Cooper Flagg, and he was like y’all got me for life.”
Kidd’s outlook as the Dallas Mavericks head coach appears to be a mixed bag. The Mavericks are slightly favored to miss the NBA Playoffs at the time of writing. However, if the Mavericks recover health-wise and Cooper Flagg makes an immediate impact, the team can field one of the NBA’s best defenses while contending for the NBA Playoffs.
Kidd is a familiar face to Dallas Mavericks players and fans alike. He played 19 seasons in the NBA from 1994 to 2013. Two of his stints were with the Mavericks from 1994-96 and 2008-2012. The former second overall pick is widely regarded as one of the most versatile point guards ever.
His experience on the court can help the Mavericks succeed. Hopefully, that happens sooner rather than later. The Mavericks’ frontcourt defense is solid on paper, with Flagg joining the mix alongside Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, and Daniel Gafford. Klay Thompson and Max Christie are returning. D’Angelo Russell is expected to be the team’s main ball-handler until Kyrie Irving returns, if at all.
