Jason Terry played for 19 seasons in the NBA and had a fair few special moments in that time. Unfortunately for Terry, though, there is one unflattering moment that stands out when you think of his career, LeBron James posterizing him in 2013. During the latest episode of Draft House, Terry was asked about that infamous play.
"I'mma give you the real," Terry said. "I just had something against getting ripped and I freaking got ripped. And I'm like, 'Nah, I gotta get the ball back.' It's a 3-on-1, that's really my last thought was like, 'Oh s---.'
"But the worst part, wake up the next morning, I looked at my phone I'm getting like texts crazy," Terry continued. "(Like), 'Man you good?' We heard you were dead.' So you said what was I thinking? I wasn't obviously. If there was any right thought in my mind, I definitely wouldn't have been in that play."
In case you've somehow never seen LeBron's incredible dunk on Terry, you can check it out below.
Dwyane Wade had stolen the ball from Terry and the then-Boston Celtics guard wanted to make amends for that. Sadly for him, he ended up on the receiving end of a vicious dunk because of it. LeBron stared down Terry after the play too and after that game, it was clear he was happy that he had posterized the guard.
"I've had a chance to (review) it and it was one of my better ones," James said. "The fact that it happened to J.T. made it that much sweeter. Because we all know J.T. and he talks too much sometimes. And I'm glad it happened to him."
Terry sure did talk a lot and these two had been somewhat going at each other for a while. Their "rivalry" began during the 2011 NBA Finals, when Terry's Dallas Mavericks shockingly beat LeBron's Miami Heat in six games.
While Terry emerged victorious in that series, LeBron would get the better of him, for the most part, from then on out. In this game, for instance, the Heat won 105-103, with James recording 37 points, 7 rebounds, 12 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Terry, meanwhile, had 9 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in the contest.
While Wade was the one who stole the ball from Terry on that play, it was Norris Cole who lobbed it up for LeBron to slam it home. During an appearance on The OGs Show earlier this year, Cole spoke about what was going through his mind before James' dunk.
"I had just turned it over tried to make up for it, which we did... Got the back tip you know, D Wade you know kicked it up to me, I had a layup but you know I heard the freight train."
"I heard it, I heard him, I didn't even see him, I just heard him. When I heard him I was just like oh okay no layup here.. I just had to make sure it was high enough that JT didn't tip it."
Cole sure did make up for his mistake with that lob pass. It was almost perfect and meant all Terry could do was watch in horror as the freight train that was LeBron, dunked on him.
