The Boston Celtics decided that this was the offseason to start making a lot of changes with the franchise. They wanted to get under the second apron of the luxury tax, and they have accomplished that.
With Jayson Tatum out with a torn Achilles, the Celtics decided this was the time to tear down the bones of the title-winning team in 2024. That's what Brad Stevens decided to do this summer.
Jaylen Brown is entering this season as the number-one option on the team. He talked during media day, telling everyone how bittersweet the opening of practice was.

Brown let the media know that practice is "A little bit sad right now" because of all of the new faces on the team. This was chronicled in The Athletic by Jay King.
“It’s a little bit sad. A lot of the guys, I spent a lot of time with. We had such a great group over the last couple of years. To see them not be around anymore obviously is going to have an effect on our team, but we’ve got five new players that we’ve got to get onboarded and acclimated into the system. So I’m trying to expedite that chemistry building, that trust building, so you guys can see a really good product when we get to the floor.”
Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday are now gone, as are Al Horford and Luke Kornet. The Celtics decided to really make a lot of changes with Tatum out.

Even though there are a lot of new faces in Boston, Brown is excited to see what the team can do this year.
“I’m excited. We got some new faces, some new guys, some new energy. Obviously, my teammates who are no longer with us, I appreciate dearly. They helped us bring banner 18 and a championship. So I wish them well on the next phase. Now we’re here. It kind of feels like a new era a bit, where we got some new people and things feel a little different. But I feel great. I feel very, very optimistic about this year.”
Brown will be leading the team this season. This will be a new experience for him as well. It's a challenge that he is looking forward to taking on.
