The Boston Celtics announced that Jaylen Brown underwent a successful right acroscopic procedure on his right knee. He is expected to participate in training camp with no limitations. According to ESPN, Brown played with a partially torn right meniscus during the Celtics playoff run. Brown averaged just over 22 points this postseason while playing with this injury.

The Celtics Need Jaylen Brown This Upcoming Season

Jaylen Brown’s health is important for Boston this upcoming season, as Jayson Tatum is expected to be out for the entire season with a ruptured right Achilles tendon. The Celtics won’t be the same time without Tatum, but having Brown at 100% is imperative for Boston if they want to be competitive next season.

With Brown expected to be fine for next season, what do the Celtics do? They could run it back with the same group and try to get a picture of what the team would look like with Brown as the clear leader. They could try to go out and add another piece in free agency or via trade. The point is, it is hard to predict what the Celtics plan is for next year because it could go in so many different directions.

What Are the Odds the Celtics Could Tear It Down?

The Boston Celtics won’t dismantle their roster in the offseason. It could happen during the regular season, but the Celtics would need to have a disastrous record. Otherwise, the Celtics can still compete for the playoffs even without Tatum, assuming that the roster they currently have is the one that will be there on Opening Night.

It all comes down to what management thinks. Their record would have to be bad to tear it down, and would a complete teardown be worth it with Tatum missing one season? That’s up for debate.

Last Thoughts

Jaylen Brown’s recovery from surgery is great news for the Celtics. It makes the possibility of the team being competitive much more realistic, but it doesn’t solve all their issues. Basketball fans should keep an eye on Brown to see how he’ll perform as the leader of the Celtics.
