It has been over two months since Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles. Tatum suffered the injury on May 12 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks.

A torn Achilles typically takes at least a year to recover from. The Celtics have not officially declared Tatum out for the 2025-26 season yet, but he will likely miss most of it, if not the entirety. For reference, the Indiana Pacers have declared Tyrese Haliburton out for the season after he tore his Achilles.

This is the first long-term injury Tatum has suffered in his NBA career. The most games he has ever missed throughout an NBA season was this past season, where he missed a grand total of 10 games because of minor injuries.

Tatum will miss the most games he's ever missed this coming season. However, as he recovers from such a serious injury, Tatum may share updates on where his recovery is. On Sunday, he released his latest update.

Tatum shared a photo of himself on his Instagram story where he clearly isn't wearing a boot (aggregated by CelticsBlog's Noa Dalzell), which is what those who suffer an Achilles tear wear when it's first torn. Tatum not wearing the boot shows that his recovery is progressing.

There's no telling what this means regarding when Tatum will return to the floor. When he does, there's no telling how well he'll play when he resumes his NBA career.
