Lauri Markkanen trade talk isn’t going anywhere. Utah still isn’t budging.
And according to veteran NBA insider Matt Moore of FanSided, the Jazz aren’t just hesitant — they’re flat-out shutting down conversations.
“Utah continues to stonewall all talks for Lauri Markkanen,” Moore wrote (via Ashish Mathur of Dallas Hoops Journal). “If they move him, it will be sudden.”
It’s easy to see why teams keep calling. Markkanen is off to one of the best starts in the league, averaging 30.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 47.9 percent from the field and nearly 39 percent on threes. That scoring mark ranks sixth in the NBA.
The 7-footer is in Year 1 of a four-year, $195 million renegotiation-and-extension. He’s making $46.4 million this season.
The Jazz are just 5-8, and Markkanen has never reached the playoffs, which is why plenty of people around the league believe he should eventually ask out.
But league sources told Dallas Hoops Journal that Markkanen hasn’t considered it.
“The rumors already started, but I don’t pay attention to that,” Markkanen said before the season. “Pretty much anybody can get traded in this league. You just play to the best of your abilities… and if something happens, then we adjust.”
Markkanen, the 2022-23 Most Improved Player, has averaged 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds across stops with the Bulls, Cavaliers and Jazz.
For now, Utah’s stance hasn’t changed. Teams want him. The Jazz won’t talk.
