Jazz star Rudy Gobert discusses how he repaired relationship with Donovan Mitchell

Almost one year ago, Utah Jaz center Rudy Gobert became the first NBA player to test positive for COVID-19. Donovan Mitchell tested positive shortly after, which reportedly caused a crack in their relationship.

In an interview with The Athletic's Sam Amick, Gobert opened up about how he repaired his relationship with Mitchell without getting into too much detail.

"We had a very honest conversation, and that's all I needed," Gobert said. "You know, after that, once I knew that I told him everything that was on my mind and I heard everything that was on his mind, I knew that we could move forward. I'm not going to disclose all that, but I knew that once we (had that conversation) we could move forward."

Despite the reported rift between Gobert and Mitchell, the two committed to the Jazz by signing new contracts during the offseason. Gobert agreed to a five-year, $205 million deal, which is the largest deal for a center in league history, and Mitchell signed a five-year, $195 million designated rookie max extension.

With the duo fully committed to the franchise, the Jazz sit atop the Western Conference standings with a 16-5 record, ahead of both the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers. Utah has won nine of its last 10 games, largely in part to Gobert, who is averaging 13.3 points per game, and Mitchell, who is averaging 23.3 points per contest.
