The 2025 NBA Finals involved a magical run from the Indiana Pacers as Tyrese Haliburton led his team to the last round after multiple grueling series.
The Pacers defied almost every expectation during the 2025 Playoffs. It was a magical time for their fans, as their team beat the Milwaukee Bucks, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the New York Knicks.
That persisted in the NBA Finals, as they were going toe-to-toe with the Oklahoma City Thunder. They went all the way to a full seven-game series, but they lost after Tyrese Haliburton ruptured his Achilles.
It was a run that led the Pacers to become respected as an Eastern Conference contender. However, they still have some detractors, including former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague.
Teague once played for the Pacers, but he was not the biggest fan of their run in the 2025 Playoffs. This is surprising, considering he was born and raised in the state of Indiana.
Of course, this could be banter with his co-hosts on the Club 520 Podcast, but he made a bold statement that the Pacers were not a good enough team for the NBA Finals.
That is an unpopular opinion, given that the Pacers defeated some of the Eastern Conference’s best teams.

“Man, you ruined basketball last year… If he averaged 15 this year, he’s good, Nembhard. But to play 30 minutes, only to average 10, I don’t see you… Tyrese missed a lot,” Teague said on Club 520.
“One of the worst Finals teams in NBA history. Y’all had a lucky run, bro. One of the worst rosters in NBA history to make the Finals. I’m nothing, bro. You’re not telling me they were better than the Heat.”
These were some wild statements, but his co-hosts managed to keep propping up what the Pacers did.
Due to Haliburton’s injury, the Pacers will not return to title contention next season. They will have a gap year with the other players working on their games ahead of the star’s return.
Andrew Nembhard will likely have a good year as the de facto starting point guard, with TJ McConnell continuing as the sixth man.

Myles Turner has left for the Milwaukee Bucks , so more opportunities are waiting for other players. New acquisition Jay Huff could be the starter alongside Pascal Siakam in the frontcourt.
The Pacers could have another underdog run, but that will most likely come when Haliburton returns.
Head coach Rick Carlisle has his work cut out for him, as he needs to help the team be ready for a potential return to the NBA Finals in 2027, when everyone is healthy.
