The Golden State Warriors are still waiting to make a move this summer.
It all ties back to the Golden State Warriors‘ inability to reach an agreement with Jonathan Kuminga about a contract extension.
Even Warriors owner Joe Lacob has failed at convincing Kuminga to sign a team-friendly deal. The Warriors could simply resolve this issue by trading Kuminga.
In fact, they have been approached by the Sacramento Kings for a trade. Speaking of that offer, the Kings reportedly presented a deal centered around Malik Monk, but the Warriors showed no interest.
Former NBA player Jeff Teague recently addressed the Kings offering Monk to the Warriors on the Club 520 podcast.
Teague believes Monk would be a ‘fire addition’ to the Warriors, but the Dubs are looking to sign a big man first.
“Malik Monk could be a fire addition to the Warriors. But I think they’re set on getting a big, that’s what they need more than anything.
“I think he’d be a fire addition, though, because they need a spark plug like him. That’s that Jordan Poole type player right there,” Teague said.
Considering Monk averaged 17.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game last season, there’s no doubt about the 27-year-old’s talent.
But as Teague pointed out, the Warriors would need to sign a solid big man before potentially trading for Monk. Al Horford has been consistently linked as a replacement for Kevon Looney for the Warriors.
Coming back to Teague’s take on Monk’s fit with the Warriors. The former NBA All-Star believes Monk will benefit from the Warriors’ system.
So much so that he will surpass what Jordan Poole did for the team during their 2022 NBA Championship run.
“If he got in that system with those veterans and those players that could mold him a little more, he’ll probably be better than Jordan Poole,” Teague added.
Now, that’s a huge prediction, as Poole was among the top performers for the Warriors in the 2022 NBA Playoffs. Unfortunately, his tenure ended abruptly due to a scuffle with Draymond Green.
