Newly acquired Golden State Warriors small forward Jimmy Butler is in year 14 of his NBA career, which began when the Chicago Bulls drafted him with the No. 30 pick overall in the 2011 NBA draft.
The former Marquette standout who started his college career at the JUCO level at Tyler Junior College in Texas was traded to the Warriors on Friday by the Miami Heat, making this his fifth stop of his NBA career. In 25 games with the Heat this season, he averaged 17 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists but saw his tenure end on a sour note.
He was suspended three times this season, with two of them being due to conduct "detrimental to the team" and another after missing a team flight, according to ESPN. Butler's effort had also been questioned at times by the Heat this season, and his popularity in South Beach wasn't boosted by his attempt to force a trade to the Phoenix Suns.
Following the dramatic saga and a five-team trade to facilitate his move, Butler revealed on Thursday at his introductory presser with Golden State that he had one regret.
When asked about what he regretted about the months' worth of drama, Butler's answer may not be one that Heat fans would love.
"Only one," Butler replied. "I just opened my coffee shop in Miami and can't go there no more. So we gonna have to figure out a way to get one in San Fran."
Butler's coffee brand "Big Face Coffee" started at the NBA bubble during the 2020 COVID season at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando. Butler began selling coffee to other players for a whopping $20.
His hotel room hustle turned into much more, as according to the shop's Instagram, it had its grand opening in Dec. 2024 in the Miami Design District. However, it may be worth moving it to the Bay, as Heat fans have appeared to review bomb the shop, which now has a 2.8 rating on Google reviews.
As for his main hustle, Warriors insider Anthony Slater reported that Butler plans to make his Dubs debut on Saturday against the Bulls. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 8:00 PM ET at the United Center.
