JJ Redick's Real Thoughts About Deandre Ayton Resurfaced After Lakers Acquire Big Man

Redick highlighted how solid the pairing of Chris Paul and Ayton had been for the Suns, specifically out of the pick-and-roll. Paul's mastery of the point guard position only served to bring the best out of the big man.

By the looks of it, Redick had every reason to be enamored by Ayton's ability and potential. During his time with the Phoenix Suns, he looked like one of the best big men in the game, notching an average of 16.7 points and 10.4 rebounds a game during his tenure.

Since leaving the Suns, Ayton has had some struggles with matching these figures, but he remains productive all the same. Coming off a season of averaging 14.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game with the Portland Trail Blazers, the 26-year-old is a truly special talent.

The opportunities for Ayton to be successful with the Lakers are endless. The potential pick-and-roll plays with him and Luka Doncic will pose a nightmare matchup for opposition defenses. 

Although there is more to be demanded of his defensive effort, the Lakers will breathe a sigh of relief after having acquired a center. With one part of their offseason plan checked off, the Purple and Gold will proceed with adding depth to their roster.

The Lakers Could Look To Sign Chris Paul

The rumors linking Chris Paul with the Los Angeles franchises have been an interesting point of conversation in the offseason. While Paul would undoubtedly show more of an interest towards joining his former team, the Clippers, the Lakers could present a great opportunity for the veteran.

Redick's comments about Ayton also considered the role Paul played in bringing the best out of him. Given his experiences of playing alongside the big man, signing Paul could be a priority for the Lakers if they want Ayton to play to his potential.
