Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is the most notable player from the franchise to make the 2021 NBA All-Star Game. With the 26-year-old slated to take home a nice share of money for being part of the festivities, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Embiid is planning to donate his earnings to homeless shelters in Philadelphia.
The money donated will provide meals, clothing and COVID-19 treatment for people at the shelters. He will also be helping teenagers taking part in summer camp and essential care in Philly.
Sixers MVP candidate @JoelEmbiid has committed to donate his $100,000 in winnings on All-Star Weekend to three homeless shelters in the Philadelphia-area, providing meals, clothing, COVID treatment, health care, summer camp and essential care for teens.

This isn't the first time Embiid has donated money amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the veteran big man donated $500,000 to COVID-19 relief in the Philly community. He also combined with Sixers' managing partners, Josh Harris and David Blitzer, to donate $1.3 million to Penn Medicine for critical support of health care workers fighting COVID-19.
Since being selected by the Sixers third overall in 2014, Embiid has become a fan-favorite because of both his on-and-off-the-court actions.
This season, the four-time All-Star is averaging a career-high 30.2 points, 11.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 52.1% from the field and 41.6% from deep.
