Joel Embiid is once again back in the medical tent.

The Philadelphia 76ers revealed on Wednesday that their star center Embiid is dealing with a new injury. Embiid reported soreness in his right shin while participating in a right knee management program over the All-Star break.

As a result, Embiid has been ruled out for Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks. The 76ers added that the former NBA MVP will be re-evaluated ahead of the team’s back-to-back set this weekend.

Embiid, who turns 32 next month, missed the 76ers’ last two games before the All-Star break. Overall on the year, Embiid has appeared in just 31 of a possible 54 games, averaging 26.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per contest overall.

A shin injury is obviously very concerning for Embiid given his lengthy history of leg issues. The seven-footer has been managing a lingering problem with his right knee, which was even described months ago as “debilitating.”

The seven-time All-Star Embiid did look superb earlier in the season, leading to rave reviews for the doctor that performed his arthroscopic knee surgery last April. But now the 30-24 76ers will have to once again hold their collective breath that Embiid’s latest injury is a minor one.
