Joel Embiid joined Paul George on the sidelines on Tuesday as the Philadelphia 76ers took on the Boston Celtics in a home game at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Despite missing the services of their two superstars, the Sixers were still able to secure a hard-fought 102-100 victory over Jaylen Brown and the Celtics.
Tyrese Maxey led the charge for Philly yet again, registering a team-high 21 points, with five rebounds, nine assists, a steal and three triples. The Sixers improved to 7-4 after Tuesday’s victory. It was their second win in three games.
Some good news for both Embiid and George has now accompanied Philadelphia’s latest win.
Embiid has been in and out of the lineup for the Sixers of late. He missed his second straight game on Tuesday due to a lingering knee injury. It was reported on Tuesday that the former NBA MVP’s right knee would have to be examined by team doctors to determine the extent of the injury.
ESPN’s Sham Charania revealed the results of Embiid’s tests, and the good news is that there appears to be no significant cause for concern.
“76ers center Joel Embiid was re-evaluated tonight on his right knee – and has no structural issues and is day to day,” Charania posted on X.

George, on the other hand, has yet to make his Sixers debut this season. The nine-time All-Star is still recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in July.
Charania also had a crucial update on George’s road to recovery on Tuesday night. According to the renowned NBA guru, George is closing in on his much-anticipated season debut.
“76ers' Paul George is in the final stage of his debut process and will be re-evaluated later this week. He is moving closer to a return, but doctors want additional strength of his left quadriceps to support the knee before clearance,” Charania reported.

Neither Embiid nor George has a definite return timetable. However, the fact that Embiid is day-to-day indicates that he’s much closer to returning than George.
Embiid has a chance to play in the Sixers’ next game, which is on Friday against the Detroit Pistons. Philly will be on the road for that one, with tip-off from Little Caesars Arena scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
